The present invention is directed to 3-benzoylindole derivatives represented by the following formula (I):(wherein R1 represents a lower alkyl group, n is an integer from 1 to 5; each of R2 and R3 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or an optionally substituted phenyl group; and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or a benzyl group) and to a pharmaceutical containing the same. This compound is endowed with strong alpha1-adrenergic receptor blocking action and strong testosterone 5alpha-reductase inhibitory action, as well as high level of safety, and thus is useful as an excellent preventive or therapeutic drug for prostatic hypertrophy or accompanying urination disorder, alopecia, and acne.
