<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passive safety device for a vehicle that properly exhibits intrinsic occupant protection performance on air bag deployment and is of convenience. SOLUTION: If an operation mode selecting switch is set to select any one from a permission mode for operation of two inflators, a restriction mode for operation of one inflator and a prohibition mode for occupant protection only by a seat belt, the longitudinal movement position of the seat and the reclining angle of the seat back are limited in S4, S5 or S6 so that an optimal distance D is maintained between a headrest 14 and the dashboard according to the set mode. On detection of an impact in any of the three operation modes, an air bag is deployed safely on the basis of the occupant weight, whether the seat belt is tightened, and the selecting position of the operation mode selecting switch.</p> |
