METHOD FOR SEPARATING AND PURIFYING ADAMANTANE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for separating and purifying highly pure adamantane in a high yield, when the adamantane is produced by the isomerization reaction of tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene in the presence of a HF.BF3 catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for separating and purifying adamantane, comprising carrying out an isomerization reaction in the presence of a HF.BF3 catalyst, separating the reaction product from the catalyst phase comprising the HF.BF3, and then extracting the deposited adamantane with an aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon solvent or aromatic hydrocarbon solvent.
