PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work assembly line using universal pallets not fitted with motive means. SOLUTION: A plurality of pallets P moving along a circulation path 1 having a plurality of stations 11 to 18 are introduced into the circulation path 1, with body side panels 2 freely detachably positioned and placed on the pallets P. Horizontally movable slide members 69 are placed on each pallet P. Each slide member 69 is brought into engagement with a lock bar 83 by a lock arm 82 at a desired position. A hexagonal plate 75 with plural kinds of positioning jigs (positioning pin 76, panel receiver 77) for positioning and placing the side panel 2 on each pallet P is mounted at the upper end of a post 73 on each slide member 69. The hexagonal plate 75 is locked in a desired rotating position by a lock arm 93. The lock arms 82 and 93 are operated by articulated robots 19a and 19b disposed alongside the second station 12.
