PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for underwater granulating a thermoplastic resin adapted to granulation of a small amount. SOLUTION: A motor shaft 10 for supporting a rotor of a built-in motor 5 is formed in a hollow state, and a cutter shaft 12 is axially movably inserted into the hollow part. A cutter bearing 16 for rotatably and axially immovably supporting the shaft 12 is axially movably inserted into a casing 15 fixed to the side plate 7 of the motor 5. A finely regulating threaded ring 19 is provided by engaging with the casing 15 between the casing 15 and the bearing 16. Thus, the bearing 16 is pressed by a compression spring 25, and the play of the threaded part of the ring 19 is always stained in one direction. A cutter driver having a function of finely regulating the axial movement of the shaft 12 by rotating the ring 19 is provided.
