PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent antibacterial and antifungal material capable of maintaining antimicrobial properties for a long time and provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This antibacterial and antifungal material consists of a metal material 10 and an antimicrobial layer 2 having antibacterial and antifungal properties and arranged on the surface of the metal material and at least one of both of them is in a molten and coagulated state or both of them are in a mutually molten and coagulated state at least at the interface. The molten part of the interface between the metal material 10 and the antimicrobial layer 2 is preferably obtained by fusing by irradiating with high energy beams 4 and quickly coagulating the molten interface.
