PURPOSE: A driving apparatus in the UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) mode of an exchange switching system and a method thereof are provided to improve system reliability by automatically and sequentially turning off the power of service-completed subscriber boards using reserve power in the UPS mode of an exchange switching system. CONSTITUTION: An OMP(Operation and Management Processor) judges whether a UPS mode is started(S200). If the UPS mode is started, the OMP judges whether a reserve power driving signal is inputted from an operator terminal(S202). If the reserve power driving signal is inputted, the OMP drives a reserve power supply part so that an exchange switching system can be driven by the power of the reserve power supply part(S204). If the reserve power supply part is driven, the OMP turns off the power of service-completed subscriber boards among a plurality of subscriber boards in sequence(S206). Then the OMP judges whether the power-off operation for all the subscriber boards has been completed(S208). If the power of all the subscriber boards has been turned off, the OMP outputs a control signal to stop the driving of the reserve power supply part(S210).
