PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a β-alumina ceramic material which can be produced at a low production cost with a smaller number of man-hours while concurrently realizing enhancement of strength and toughness, reduction in cost and securance of good electrical characteristics of the ceramic material, and also to provide a production process of the ceramic material. SOLUTION: This ceramic material has a >=2.3 MPa.m0.5 fracture toughness value (based on the specification in JIS R 1607) and a >=97.5% relative density and in particular, preferably contains 0.01-20 mass % of at least one component selected from Ti, Zr and Ta components, expressed in terms of oxide on the outer percentage basis. |
