PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of readily printing an index or the like on a surface of a plate-like recording medium such as a CD-R. SOLUTION: This printer 1 comprises an ink jet printer 2, a medium tray 4 for conveying the medium 3 on which the printing is performed by the printer 2, a medium supplying mechanism 5 and a medium returning mechanism 6. The printer 2 is equipped with an ink jet print head 21 and a tray conveying mechanism that reciprocates the medium tray 4 along a predetermined conveyance path through a printing position of the print head 21. The medium tray 4 on which the medium 3 to be printed is loaded is provided to a side of the medium supply of the printer 2 and the medium tray 4 is conveyed through the print head 21 and then the printing is performed on the medium 3. The medium tray 4 is discharged to a side of a medium tray discharge section 24. After the medium 3 is taken out, the medium tray 4 is returned to the original position. The medium tray 4 on which the medium 3 is loaded is reciprocated, thereby repeating the printing on the medium 3.
