PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operational feeling of a brake pedal in a quick operation thereof for, for example, sudden braking by preventing a lag in the pedal reaction. SOLUTION: The electrically controlled brake system comprises a brake pressure generator 6, a brake pedal reaction device 4, a stroke sensor 44 for detecting the stroke of a brake pedal 30, and control means 10 for controlling the brake pressure generator 6 and the brake pedal reaction device 4 in accordance with signals from the sensor 44. The brake pedal reaction device 4 includes a first reaction cylinder 34 connected to the brake pedal 30, and a second reaction cylinder 46 disposed in parallel or series with the first reaction cylinder 34 and connected to the brake pedal 30. Closed chambers 50 and 52 in front of and behind a piston 48 in the second reaction cylinder 45 are interconnected by a fluid passage 56, in which an orifice 58 is interposed. In sudden braking, the damper action of the orifice 58 on the second reaction cylinder 46 prevents a lag in the pedal reaction.
