PURPOSE: A method for controlling engine torque of a car is provided to improve braking performance and control stability by controlling engine torque of the car to prevent excessive slip at the time of deceleration on a slippery road surface. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling engine torque of the car includes the steps of calculating a car speed and a slip rate based on a wheel speed detected through a sensor mounted on a wheel, determining whether or not a slip is generated during the deceleration in a state that a driver does not step a brake pedal, and controlling an opening amount of an idle valve according to target torque calculated according to slip error subtracting critical value set in the slip of the car and gradient of the slip error if a slip occurs.
