PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and relatively display, through a simple operation, additional information about embroidery on a display device for a sewing machine. SOLUTION: The display device includes: a display means (e.g. LCD 16) storing data about embroidery patterns and adapted for displaying management information, pattern information, letter information and the like; an ordering means (e.g. touch panel 17) for ordering that the additional information for display information about the condition of a display on the display means be read for display; and a control means (e.g. display control device 15) for displaying the additional information on the display means while the designating means is being operated and for turning off the display of the additional information when operation of the designating means is canceled. For example, the pattern information displayed on the display means comprises a sewing configuration for an entire multi-color pattern, and its additional information comprises a plurality of patterns showing color-sorted sewing configurations for multicolor patterns.
