<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial lightweight aggregate production process which enables production of aggregate green pellets each having sufficient strength and also, sufficient enhancement of crushing strength of sintered aggregate (the artificial lightweight aggregate). SOLUTION: This production process comprises performing pelletization and sintering by using an aggregate raw material containing >=40 wt.% coal ash, wherein: a water-soluble high polymer and a compound selected from alkali metal carbonates, alkaline earth metal carbonates and compounds each capable of being formed into a chelate compound, are added to the above aggregate raw material; and also if necessary, a surfactant is further added to the resulting aggregate raw material. Thus, in the pelletization, further uniform mixing can be performed to obtain green pellets each having further enhanced strength and in the sintering, constituent particles of such a pellet can sufficiently be fused to each other to sufficiently enhance crushing strength of the resulting sintered aggregate (artificial lightweight aggregate).</p> |
