PURPOSE: A device for accurately detecting the breaking of the wire of a wire twisting machine in which a copper earth member is positioned between a guide end plate for guiding each element wire drawn from a plurality of element wire supply bobbines and a rotary end plate, and a light censor capable of detecting the strand number of the element wire is installed is provided, which prevents the structural failure of steel cords beforehand. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises a copper earth member(15) placed between a guide end plate(13) for guiding each element wire(12a) drawn from a plurality of element wire supply bobbines and a rotary end plate(14) for incorporating the element wire by a high-speed revolution; a light censor(20) placed near element wires rotating at high speeds between the rotary end plate and a voice(16); and a counter(21) for expressing the strand number of the element wire in figures on a display(21a) after receiving a sensing signal from the light censor.
