PURPOSE: A device for estimating motion in MPEG-2 coder is provided to support a mode for various motion compensations by the same hardware structure when an image is coded using an MPEG-2 method. CONSTITUTION: A reference data processing unit(30) stores inputted reference data adapted to a motion estimating format and reads and outputs the data. A storing unit(40) stores the reference data as a motion estimating format by a control of the reference data processing unit(30). A searching data processing unit(50) stores and reads inputted searching data as a motion estimating format. Memory modules(60, 70) store the searching data by a control of the searching data processing unit(50). An upper and lower motion estimating modules(80, 90) estimate a motion of 1 frame respectively by the reference data and the searching data and output motion data. A motion estimating control unit(100) outputs a motion vector of the upper and lower field having a minimum error respectively by comparing a forecasting error of the motion data output from the upper and lower motion estimating modules(80,90) and offers a control signal to the motion estimating modules(80, 90). FIFOs(110,111) output the motion vector to the motion estimating control unit(100) by delaying the motion vector of the upper and lower field having a minimum error, and output the final motion vector value. |
