<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid abnormal rise in the exhaust temperature, without impairing the output performance and fuel consumption of a lean burn engine. SOLUTION: A compressor outlet 4a of a turbo-charger 2 installed on a lean burn engine 1 is connected with the turbine inlet 3a via a communication passage 11. A control valve 12 is installed to vary the degree of opening of a communication passage 11, in response to the operating condition of engine 1, thereby the air discharged from compressor 4 is returned to the turbine 3 and the temperature of the exhaust gas is made to drop, and the thermal loading of the turbo-charger 2 and exhaust gas processing means are reduced, and abnormal rise in the exhaust temperature is also avoided.</p> |
