PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for compensating a definition of a digital TV is provided for a user to watch as a color to be displayed by a broadcasting station regardless of the peripheral illumination condition by performing a digital signal process of an image quality correction being considered the peripheral illumination condition in a system requesting a high definition as a digital TV. CONSTITUTION: A digital tuner(100) outputs an intermediate frequency signal created by performing a frequency conversion of a wireless frequency signal of the corresponding channel being received through an antenna(101) when tuning data are inputted. An intermediate frequency demodulator(110) demoduates and outputs the intermediate frequency signal. A VSB receiver(120) outputs only a signal of wanted area out of output signals of the demodulator(110). A TP demultiplexer(130) separates and outputs a digital sound and a video signal from the output signal of the VSB receiver(120). An MPEG decoder(140) performs an MPEG decoding of the digital video signal output from the TP demultiplexer(130). An analog/digital converter(150) receives an analog broadcasting signal(YUV) and converts into a digital signal. An RGB sensor(160) senses the external illumination light and outputs an R,G,B. An analog/digital converter(170) converts the outputs signal(R,G,B) of the RGB sensor(160). A color correction processing unit(180) corrects the image quality and outputs the output signal(Y.Cb,Cr) of the converter(150) and the output signal(Y.Cb,Cr) of the MPEG decoder(140). A video display processor(190) receives the digital broadcasting signal(Y',Cb'Cr') of the color correction processing unit(180) and converts into and outputs an analog video signal(Y,U,V). A video chroma processor(200) receives the output signal(Y,U,V) and displays the signal(Y,U,V) on a CPT(210).
