PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing pyromellitic acid from 2,4,5-trimethylbenzaldehyde or its oxidized derivative in high yield. SOLUTION: Pyromellitic acid is produced by oxidizing 2,4,5 trimethylbenzaldehyde or its oxidized derivative in a liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst containing bromine, manganese and iron, or additionally germanium by using a water-containing lower fatty acid as a solvent under a specific semibatch reaction condition. |
