PURPOSE: A process for preparing the titled sea-island type conjugate fiber having high yarn strength after the dissociation of a sea component by controlling the modulus, crylstallinity and birefringence rate of a yarn classified by each stage of a drawing process is provided, thereby producing sea-island type conjugate fiber in particularly useful for warp knitted fabric. CONSTITUTION: In manufacturing sea-island type conjugate fiber for warp knitted fabric having 50 to 90 denier by using an easily alkali-soluble copolymerized polyester as a sea component and conventional polyester as a land component and spin-drawing, the process satisfies the following conditions; (1)a first godet roller velocity(V1); 1,000 to 5,000m/min, (2)a second godet roller velocity(V2); 1,500 to 6,000m/min, (3)a birefringence(Δn) of a yarn on the first godet roller; 0.005 to 0.090 and (4)a modulus of a yarn; 60 to 90g/d.
