PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the material composed of an Nb-Al-Si intermetallic compound excellent in oxidation resistance at a high temperature of 1,300 deg.C and applicable as the structural material for high temperature use or the coating material for the conventional Nb base alloy inferior in oxidation resistance. SOLUTION: An Nb-Al-Si intermetallic compound containing 20 atomic % Al and 47 atomic % Si, forming a dense alumina protective film on the surface in a high temperature atmosphere and excellent in oxidation resistance, is obtained.
