PURPOSE: A tunnel excavation method is provided to restrain noise and vibration and to prevent a traction member from breaking simply. CONSTITUTION: A tunnel excavation method comprises the steps of attaching a hood-shaped blade(3) at the front end of a case(1), placing a traction member such as a steel wire, etc. to pass through the case, installing an anchorage(5) or a traction jack(6) at the rear end of the case and a traction jack or an anchorage at the other end of the case, excavating and molding with the blade to advance the case, hauling the case by the traction jack, and excavating and molding with the blade repeatedly if the case moves forward in a degree. When the traction jack is operated by fixing both ends of the traction member, a propelling jack(2) placed between cases is used as a shock absorber.
