PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a hot dip galvanized steel sheet (inclusive of a hot dip galvannealed steel sheet) provided with excellent press formability and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In this hot dip galvanized steel sheet, a cold rolled steel sheet containing chemical components of, by weight, 0.08 to 0.13% C, <=0.5% Si, 0.8 to 1.3% Mn, also Mn/C>=10.0, <=0.20% P, <=0.01% S, 0.005 to 0.10% Al and <=0.005% N or moreover one or two kinds of <=0.5% Cr and <=0.005% B, and Fe as essential components and having a structure composed of ferrite and pearlite, in which fine carbides are largely precipitated into the ferrite is used as a base material, and a hot dip galvanizing layer or a hot dip galvannealing layer is formed on the surface. This steel sheet has TS*El>=16,500 (MPa*%) and TS*Ell (local elongation) >=6,500 (MPa*%).
