PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a new emulsion polymer having no problem of gelation of reaction mixture during polymerization reaction. SOLUTION: This emulsion polymer is obtained by the following method. This method for preparing the emulsion polymer comprises subjecting at least one kind of ethylenic unsaturated monomer to a free radical polymerization to form a first emulsion polymer and successively treating the first emulsion polymer with a colloidal stabilizer, at least one kind of a second ethylenic unsaturated monomer and a redox system at 20-85 deg.C.
