A cell drum filter for dehydrating suspensions, esp. those of low permeability such as wood pulp, comprising a sieve drum partly immersed in a suspension trough with suction cells applied from the inside to the cylindrical sieve surface, has an additional supply of liquid applied to the outside face of the cells individually as they pass a point between that where the filter layer is removed (above liquid level) and the point where the cells emerge from the liquid. The preferred position is just below the immersion point; the effect of the additional applied liquid is to improve suction as the cells leave the suspension, thus ensuring longer, more effective dehydration in the stage above the liquid surface. |
