A scheduler for a telecommunications network which, in operation, uses a repetitive fixed time frame, stores (701) arriving data packets and determines (702) the expiry times of those data packets. The data packets are prioritised and loaded into respective time frames in dependence upon the order in which the frames are to be transmitted. For each time frame, a subset of data packets is derived in which the subset comprises those packets having the greatest expiry times. The subset has a number of locations wich is less than the total number of locations in the frame, preferably less than 50 % of the total frame. |
