<p>Solid particles to be frozen travel continuously on a fluidised bed through which cooling air passes. The air passes upwardly through the perforated bottom of the bed and is continuously recycled by passage through a refrigerator unit and back through the fluidised bed. At least one fan causing the recycling of the air is located in an enclosure surrounding the freezing chamber and is located downstream of the refrigerator unit and upstream of the fluidised bed with respect to the direction of air-flow. This avoids problems of frosting on the fan blades. Used for freezing e.g. fruit and vegetables.</p> |
