A grinding apparatus has vegetable material with aligned stems perpendicular to their movement through the nip of two superposed endless belts. The belts move the stems between two grinding rollers each having ridges or grooves at 0 - 180 deg to their axis. The stems are at an acute or obtuse angle but not perpendicular to the axes of the rollers. The acute or obtuse angle may be adjusted to vary the grinding. Each roller may have helical ridges or grooves forming an angle near to 90 deg with the stems to give fine grinding. The rollers progressively grind each stem in a direction towards the belts.
