The unit consists of a brake fastened to the skate, and a brake actuator (1) with hand lever (5). The hand lever has a fastener strap (3,4) to fasten it esp. to the leg of the skater, near the knee or the skater's clothing. Alternately, the lever may be integral with a knee protector (8), which is formed as a counter lever (6) to the hand lever. A transmission device between lever and brake actuator consists of a hydraulic unit with hose, or a Bowden cable (7). The brake is a brake disc or a brake block, and is pressed against a wheel of the skate.
