PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF SHAPED ARTICLES

A process for the production of a shaped article of a consumable product in which a composition is extruded through a die comprising at least one orific e characterized in that the cross-sectional area for flow through the said at least on orifice is varied in a continuous fashion during at least part of t he time said extrusion is occurring, whereby an extrudate is obtained whose cro ss- sectional area varies along at least a part of its length. Apparatus suitabl e for carrying out the process are also described.
