<p>A cable lock and seal device comprises a body (2) having a passage (9) therethrough and an elongate flexible inextensible member such as a cable (11) having one end (13) attached to the body, the opposite end being adapted to pass through the passage so that such cable engages a friction roller enclosed by the body, and rotatable about an axis normal to the axis of the passage. The roller (17) is movable upwardly along a surface (20) of a ramp which is inclined with respect to the axis of the passage (9) thereby to reduce the dimension of the passage available for accommodating the cable. A spring (19) is arranged to bias the roller (17) against the cable (11) when the latter is inserted into the passage (9), whereby, on attempted withdrawal of the cable from that passage, frictional engagement between the roller (17) and the cable (11) tends to draw the roller (17) upwardly along the ramp surface (20) to cause a jam fit with the cable (11) to resist further withdrawal. The spring (19) is arranged to bias the ramp surface (20) towards the axis of the passage (9), and that ramp surface (20) may be constituted by a surface of the spring (19).</p> |
