<p>A packaging container for food such as meat, formed as a tray (10) with a bottom (14), an inside (16) and an open top (20). From the bottom of the tray rises an inside chamber (22) with chamber walls (24), a chamber bottom (25) facing the open top of the tray and a chamber opening (32) coplanar with the bottom of the tray. The inside of the chamber (28) connects with the inside of the tray through small perforations (34) in the chamber walls. An additive (38) is placed inside the chamber that is then sealed. Exudates from meat residing in the tray flow through the perforations into the chamber and are absorbed by the additive. Methods for fabrication of the tray and for sealing the chamber after introduction of the additive are described.</p> |
