The gas generator has an ignition unit (1), a pyrotechnic solid charge (2) in a combustion chamber (3), and a fuel gas container (4). The container is sealed by a burst unit (9) supported against the internal container pressure by a support unit (10). The unit is held in a first support position by a detachable holder (17). The support unit has a wider base (11) facing the combustion chamber, which is loaded by the pressure of the combustion gases after ignition. The gas generator has an intermediate chamber (12), and combustion gases and then fuel gases flow through it before ejection from the generator.
