APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR UV CURING OF INTAGLIO PRINTING

A method and apparatus is provided for UV curing of Intaglio inks applied to sheets of a substrate (2). The printed sheets are transported past one or more UV curing lamps (21, 22) on a sheet transport surface (12) of a rotatable transfer drum (10). The transport surface (12) has an array of apertures (13) connected to a vacuum system (16, 31, 32, 34, 36, 40) for holding the sheets smoothly on the rotatable drum (10). The apparatus also includes air blower bars (51,52) arranged to direct air onto the printed surface of the substrate (2) to assist in smoothing the sheets of substrate on the transport surface (12).
