At least one call service (SPR, FAX, DAT) is provided using at least one subscriber line (TA1...3) of a group (SHG) of lines. A specific service (SPR, FAX, DAT) is provided for transmitting information in the scope of the connection. Within the group, a subscriber line providing the service is determined and communication set up for that line. For the subscriber line, the current switching/operating state is detected, and a currently free line is determined accordingly.
