The convertible automobile roof has a roof pillar (4), and especially a D-pillar, which moves on a bearing mounting into the stowage position when the roof is opened. The bearing mounting (25) moves the lower end of the roof pillar (4) forwards, in relation to the bodywork, with a back swing movement of the pillar (4) into the stowage position around its lower end. The bearing mounting (25) can be an articulated drive linkage, with a four-link structure (26) to give the forwards movement. A second four-link structure (27) gives the swing movement. The roof (2) is on a swing mounting at the upper end of the roof pillar (4).
