ELECTROLYTE FOR SECONDARY BATTERY AND SECONDARY BATTERY

An electrolyte for secondary batteries which has high ionic conductivity and is highly safe; and a secondary battery which contains the electrolyte and is excellent in suitability for charge/discharge cycles. The electrolyte comprises an ionic compound and one or more organic high-molecular compounds, wherein the high-molecular compounds comprise a compound represented by the formula (1): Z<1>-[(A<1>O)1-R<1>]a or a borate compound obtained by esterifying a compound represented by the formula (1) with boric acid or boric anhydride.(Z<1> is a residue of a compound having 1 to 6 hydroxyl groups; A<1>O's are one or more kinds of C2-4 oxyalkylene groups; R<1> is a group or atom selected among cyanoethyl, C1-12 hydrocarbon groups, and hydrogen; and l is 0 to 600 and a is 1 to 6, provided that l.a is 0 to 600).
