The method of control of a fuel injected motor vehicle internal combustion engine involves directly injecting fuel into the combustion chamber (4) during the compression stroke in one function mode and in the induction stroke in a second mode. The engine (1) operates in the compression stroke injection mode when the engine is cold. An Independent claim is included for a control circuit for the engine using the above method.
