<p>Load and hardware requirements, for example, on a network and a video server, are eased. A buffer memory (5) measures buffer usage and supplies the result to a tape drive controller (7). In playback mode, the tape drive controller (7) decreases the videotape drive speed in case of a buffer usage greater than a normal value, and increases the videotape drive speed in case of a buffer usage smaller than the normal value. In record mode, tape drive controller (7) stops videotape from traveling temporarily in case of the network transmission speed being low and the buffer usage being below a normal value, and allows videotape to run again for recording when the buffer usage becomes above the normal value. Thus,the playback or recording speed by a tape drive device (3) can be adjusted in accordance with the network transmission speed.</p> |
