The press has a stationary part (1) and a moveable part (2) with locking device (3). This consists of clamp parts (8) connected to the moveable press part, and engaging around the guide pillars (6) connecting the press parts. The clamp parts have inner projections, which engage in apertures (9) in the guide pillars for positive, and pref. automatic locking. After locking of the advanced moveable press part, the working cylinder (5) executes a short stroke to completely close the forming tool (7) and generate the closing forces required for internal high pressure forming.
