The invention concerns a method for treating atmospheric cooling water flowi ng in a recycling loop in semi-open circuit, comprising an atmospheric cooling device (2) provided with natural or forced convection means for ambient air, a bleeding device (D) and a make-up water feeder (E). The invention is characterised in that it consists in introducing carbon dioxide in at least a point of said recycling loop or said make-up water feeder or of a branch circuit provided on said loop or said water feeder for the purpose of said introduction.
