A golf ball construction (2) is provided having a solid core composition of a rubber having between 3 to 25 per cent by weight of an additive selected from the group of boron carbide, silicon carbide, and/or other advanced ceramic materials, the additives providing an improved core composition. The golf ball (2) further has an improved dimple arrangement in which each dimple (20) defines a dimple edge (24) adjacent a land area (22) of the golf ball, the dimple edge having a radius between 0.050 inches to 0.250 inches. The cover (6) of the ball additionally provides a surface marking opposite a balance point of the golf ball. The balance point of the golf ball being determined by floating the golf ball and allowing the ball to assume a resting configuration within the floating solution.
