Determining the identity of <13>C-urea comprises measuring and evaluating the C-N-valence changes for labelled <13>C-urea and unlabelled <12>C-urea using infra-red spectroscopy at wavelength 1350-1550 cm<-1>. An Independent claim is also included for the use of infra-red spectroscopy at 1350-1550 cm<->1 for evaluating C-N-valence changes in the identification of <13>C-urea.
