Peroxides, partic. in textile bleaching baths, are stabilised with chelate complexes of (a) polyaldehydocarboxylic acids or esters mainly contg. units (-CH2-CR'(COOA)-) (I) and (-CH2-CR(CHO)-) (II) and opt. minor amounts of units (-RC(COOA)-RC (COOA)-) (III) (where A is H, mono- or polyvalent metal, esp. an alkali metal, e.g. Na, or NH4, R and R' each are 1 - 6C alkyl, esp. Me, or H, H, and R' can also be a halogen, e.g. Cl) of degree of polymerisation 3 - 600, and/or (b) polyhydroxycarboxylic acids or esters mainly built up of units (I) and (-CH2-CR(CH2OH)-) (IV) and/or (-CH2-CHOH-) (V) and opt. contg. lesser amounts of (III) and opt. (-CH2-C(CH2OH)COOA-) (VI) and/or (-CH2-C(CH2OH)2-) (VII), where (I), (III), (Iv) and (VII) can be arranged in any desired sequence and av. distribution corresponds to 0.5 - 16 (1.1 - 16, adv. 2 - 9) ratio of -COOH or -COOA to OH, and degrees of polymerisation is 3 - 600, with alkaline earth metal ions, esp.
