Alloys, partic. Fe alloys are directly and continuously produced by charging the basic material e.g., Fe pellets or sponge iron into a circular refractory lined chamber cont. electroslag into which is inserted three symmetrically disposed non-consumable electrodes. The molten metal is continuously drawn from the chamber into an electroslag contg. pref. water cooled, ingot mould into which a consumable electrode including the alloying elements penetrates. Esp., the alloy is produced from the metal from the chamber, the consumable electrode and is cooled in the ingot mould from which a solidified alloy ingot may be continuously withdrawn. |
