1,263,872. Polyolefin compositions. AVISUN CORP. 6 Jan., 1970 [6 Jan., 1969], No. 617/70. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions C6-C7] Compositions suitable for making metallizable articles comprise (1) a substantially crystalline polyolefin and (2) 1 to 55 weight per cent of a compatible "maleic resin" which is a reaction product of maleic anhydride, or other unsaturated dibasic acid or anhydride, rosin and a polyol, e.g. ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerol, pentaerythritol or neopentyl glycol. The polyolefin may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 3-methylbutene-1 and/or 4-methyl. pentene-1, or a copolymer thereof with a minor proportion of methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile or vinyl acetate. The compositions may also comprise non-ionic surface active agents, stabilizers, plasticizers, pigments and fillers, e.g. talc, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, bentonite, mica, clay, barium sulphate, glass fibres, wood flour and asbestos. Examples describe compositions comprising maleic resin, dilauryl thiodipropionate, 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol, calcium stearate and (1) polypropylene and titanium dioxide, (2) polypropylene and t-octyl phenol/ ethylene oxide condensate, and (3 to 5) propylene/ethylene terminal block copolymers and titanium dioxide, the resins being derived from (2) maleic anhydride and pentaerythritol ester of rosin and (4) maleic anhydride, rosin and glycerol.
|
