Glucofuranosides of general formula (I): R1,R3,R5 and R6 are opt. substd. aliphatic-, alicyclic-, alicyclic-aliphatic-, araliphatic- or aromatic hydrocarbon residues; and their 2-O-acyl derivs. (I) increase the resistance of animal organisms against bacterial- and virus infections and increase the activity of chemotherapeutics, such as sulphonamides, against infections. They may therefore be used alone or together with other medicaments in the prophylaxis or therapy of infections. (I) also have anti-endotoxin activity and inhibit anaphylactic shock and inflammatory processes.
