Device for heating a plastic component uses radiant heat from an electrically heated resistance heating wire enclosed in a helical quartz tube (1). This is attached to a heat-resistant holder (2). This allows the coil to be moved along its axis (8) over the plastic component (4). An Independent claim is included for a method for molding one or more parts from a plastic rod by heating it using the above device, followed by molding using a piston.
