PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for banding a bundle of sheets, capable of quickly and correctly passing a band-like piece around the bundle of the sheets and ensuring a firm and high-quality finished article. SOLUTION: The method and apparatus for banding a bundle of sheets are such that band-like paper 9 is made to project to a banding station by a pair of motor-driven rollers 11 until a forward end of the band-like paper reaches a holding unit, and the holding unit, which is driven by a supporting/driving device and is movable, pulls the band-like paper along a closed path defined by a plurality of guide pins 55 until the band-like paper reaches a terminal position which coincides with a starting position; that upon completion of a band-like paper feeding step, each guide pin is moved to its home position where it is not contacted with the band-like paper, and the band-like paper is pulled back by the rollers so as to form a loop around a bundle 2 of sheets; and that a cutting device 74 and a sealing device cut and fix the band-like piece around the bundle, thereby completing a banding step.
