PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal processing unit that can effectively eliminate a noise in a solid-state image pickup element without losing a required component in an image signal by reducing the noise in response to an output signal level of the solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: The image signal processing unit of this invention has the solid- state image pickup element (1) that includes a photoelectric conversion means that generates an image signal through photoelectric conversion, a discrimination means (4) that discriminates an image signal level generated by the solid-state image pickup element and filters (2, 3 and 6) that filter the image signal generated by the solid-state image pickup element by changing a degree of low-pass filtering depending on the image signal level.
