PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a greening method capable of improving the rooting ratio for the roots of plants, enhancing the degree of adhesion to an object area for greening, requiring a minimum work for management and allowing a log period of growth and development by creating a natural state of environment not impairing plants, conforming to the nature of the plants without depending upon merely an artificial means for carrying out thin-layer greening on the land of quarrying traces, the rooftop of a large artificial structure, wall surfaces or the like. SOLUTION: Small seedlings with square shaped ridging having a large width or small seedlings having a triangular ridging are used as breeding material for plants which are extremely strong against drying. A mat having cuts is used as vegetation base substance. The root portions of the small seedlings are positioned below the mat, and the portion with leaves above the ground is positioned above the mat. And the root portion comes into contact with target surface for greening. The root portion below the mat is protected and erosion of soil in the growth foundation is prevented.
